Hecate's Ascension Chamber
„As above, so below.“
Hecate's second journey into twisted time signatures and bellowing basslines tune the listener into a complex web based off of Aleister Crowley's Qabala. As a luxurious double 12“ package, Zhark International and Praxis have teamed up once again to produce the first ever LP based numerically off of the English Qabala. Most of the Sounds were recorded live in Papiro's Subterranean studio. Most of the strings (viola, cello, as well as accordion) are played while Hecate jammed on his keyboards and guitars to blister the ears of her followers.
Starting from the bottom, X – Malkuth – The Earth in 10/4 time tablas intertwinded with a voice like Lilith set the pace for the next track based on the moon as Yesod, IX. The moon in its infamous glory of witches and their craft. This track also connects to the wolves and the ravens who are covered by the Egyptian god Anubis. Yma Sumac, a supposed Amazonian jungle priestess from the 50's sings about witchcraft in her native tongue – also in 9-4 time. Rachael is the first woman to use this complex beat programming, and probably the only person in the „breakcore“-scene besides Venetian Snares. The A side provides beats for DJ's as well as room for chilling out. The B side (Hod) starts out hard, and moves into quicksilver like Thoth, this is a rocking track with vocals and mass feedback assailing Rachael's own birthsign. Hard hip-hop beats explode into something like speedcore with the sirens of feedback and Rachael's voice layered over. The next one up is dedicated to Venus or the Egyptian counterpart Hathor, once again in 7/4 time, and is a beautiful tune which equalizes the movement of the record into a more laid back position. The third track on the record starts out with African instruments and a warm tone since it represents the theme of Tiphareth and the desert which belonged to Osiris. Hecate always refers to it as her „hippy“ track, but many disagree and say it's actually her most psychedelic tune yet.
Moving onto the C side, Rachael proclaims the Aeon of Horus with an invocation made in the blinding heat of a summers day. This track rocks on like a 4/4 hardcore track but it's actually 5/4 which is cool to mess with the DJ's. V stands for Geburah which means war and the Aeon of Horus the Avenger is now upon us.
Jupiter sorts out the heaviness of the C side with Papiro's strings bringing a bounty of life and light back into the picture. A relaxed 4/4 track that kicks in the middle to prove the point that Hecate can still roll out the beats and bass over a backdrop of beauty.
The D side brings the supernal triangle together with Binah (III). First a beatless piece which brings out the darkness of the Sea of Saturn. This sephira is black, black as the seas are turning through all the oil spills and animal extinction, an ominous track that opens up into the male counterpart of Binah (womanly-understanding) and Chokmah (II) blasts back with full force of men's wisdom. A driving drum and bass tune clearing the air with the power of a man. Rounding out this collection and sonic experimentation, Hecate runs Papiro's strings into a maddening finish of a pinnacle of power – once again a beatless track, Kether (I) represented by Amoun-Ra which wraps up a wonderous ride through a serious implementation of personal occult study and self-taught knowledge of technology and hermetics.
This 2nd LP is what Rachael refers to as her „unholy graal“ for reasons left to others to find out why. This LP also is a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the writing of the book of Liber AL – which supposedly was written April 8-10th 1904 in Cairo, Egypt.
Hecate's own graphic design lends perfectly with her own musick bringing her first ever gatefold sleeve (on vinyl) along with her everpresent lust for creation, which ever side it comes to. No other woman in the musick business has achieved what she has with this album.

Following the infernal trilogy of her 7" releases, Raquel De Grimstone (aka Hecate) brings out her first full length as a emotionally charged, sinister ride through the shadows of perception. Thirteen tracks comprise this CD release, six of which have been released on the single format, and the remaining seven to bring the listener ever closer to the haunted world Rachael Kozak inhabits.
After splitting up her all grrrl band in 2001, RDG started recording her own vocals to lay over her monsterous breaks and massive basslines - creating a fresh take on every thing from death metal to love songs. Her distinct vocal style lends a new edge to her already edgy music productions. With lyrics like esoteric riddles, Raquel De Grimstone brings occult symbology into tangibilty in a flurry of screams, whispers and digital mastery - making this CD a rare experience in the world of regurgitated pop songs and content starved electronics.
Beginning with her driving dub/breaks piece "Depths of the Nile" (off of the last 7" of the same title) - RDG opens up the LP with explosive bass power and lyrics based off of Egyptian Book of the Dead texts. All three tracks found on the previously released Mirex single, Art Thou Black, appear digitally remastered with "In the Streets" finding a new home amongst an abstract remix utilizing broken beats and moody synths. A raw love song, "Need You", mixes Raquel's dissonant voice over a lo-fi backing beat - while "The Witching" continues the slow groove and amps up the funk with fucked-up lines like "One look is all it takes to turn us into monsters, Hungry for the bloodletting in the heat of total disaster".... "Activate", already reviewed by one fellow artist as being "the anthem of the New Aeon" - brings satanic politics against a backdrop of rolling bass and stepping breaks. At this point, the CD switches to a brutal onslaught of death metal breaks and industrial mayhem - with tracks like "Venom Bytes", "Possess Her", and "Ransom Himself", leaving the listener to wonder what will assault them next. She rounds off the CD with a couple cover versions of psychedelic favorites churned through her mechanical madness., leaving you slain by her most extreme track "Shapeshifters" - which will be remixed by artists like Bong-Ra, Abelcain, Somatic Responses and others - appearing as a double twelve inch on Zhark International by the end of the year.
Overall, this CD presents the listener with a fast ride through an ever changing environment of psychological explorations, with most tracks lasting between two or four minutes. Another side project of Hecate, revealing a more forthright side of the iniquitous breakcore producer, FreeMansonicYouth provides a diabolic experience from start to finish.

HECATE'S SECOND LP FINISHED
Before i left to come to Madison, I finished writing my next album, entitled Ascension Chamber - due out in October or November 2003 on CD and 2x12" in a gatefold sleeve. coming out as another Zhark/Praxis release.
The album is based on the Qabalah (Kabbalah) and is a progression up the Tree of Life. Each of the 10 tracks reflect the qualities and color of the corresponding Sephira. In addition, each track that contains rhythm is written in the time signature of the specific sephira.
This album delivers a bit of a mood change from my previous work, with some tracks radiating a positive, dare i say uplifting feel - and others just as dark as you would expect.
The Qabalah reflects all the stages and feelings that one can encounter on this Earth, and each track is also associated to its planetary ruler.
Ascension Chamber could not have been completed without the immsense help from my good friend Papiro in Basel. Most of the sounds on the LP were recorded in his subteranean studio, and all of the violin, viola, and mandolin was played by Papiro himself.

Shows in the States went very well (Madison was a real blast!!) and we (Abelcain, Dirk Von Estorf and I) even got around to making a new track, a kind of commentary on the Iraq war... you can download it here http://zhark.org/tracks/WARDOGS.mp3. It will come out sometime in the future with remixes by Abelcain, Venetian Snares, and Hecate.
The Shapeshifters remix project is moving along, should come out by the beginning of autumn.
Christoph Fringeli has finished producing the next Still Raven 12", which features some super dancefloor slammers! - and Somatic Resonses are finished with their 12" for Zhark as well.

On another note, we have finally bought a d/v camera and have decided to work on a compilation of interviews, shows, and random mayhem which we happen upon wherever we travel, so watch out! - you never know where we will end up....

Although it is the middle of the month, we have just started recovering from the beginning of the year. Alot of fun was had at both squat parties here with Baseck/Nihil Fist/C4 and others.

The Strassbourg NYE party went very well with the first ever Crisis Theory appearance which rocked the audience, thanks to Seb and the promoters out there.
As far as the video projects go, I have finished a clip for Raquel De Grimstone's "Need You" track...it will be up on this site in the next few weeks, and i am going to start working on a clip for the classic Venetian Snares' "Salt" track.

Hi everyone!
This coming year is shaping up to be an exciting one with lots of releasesand shows to look forward to. Here is a quick list as to what to expect in the next couple of months.
As most of you already know, we will be bringing in the New Year in Rome with the Hekate crew and others!! come down if you can!!
Venetian Snares will be returning to Europe in February, playing on the 15th in London and then I (Hecate) will join him in some mind melting around the Continent for a few weeks. more details on dates and locations soon. if you are interested in booking something, write to me or Stephan Alt at salt@ant-zen.com ASAP.
Raquel De Grimstone has decided upon releasing a trilogy of 7"s, The first one being HWF5, the second appearing on Mirex under the title "Liber Cordis Cincti Serpente" which is scheduled for a March 10th release. The third is yet to be recorded. Stay tuned for the video to "Venom Bytes", off the first 7" coming your way soon!
In late April, I am planning on staying in Los Angeles for a couple months to finally record that album with Lustmord. It will be appearing on Hymen, although we are still deciding on a project name. I will be available to play shows in the US on the weekends during that time, so please let me know if you are interested in promoting a show in your area.
The rest of the releases mentioned in previous news will be coming out shortly...we promise!
Still Raven 2 (Eun and CW) and 3 (Supernal) are ready to be mastered next month, Still Raven 1 is being pressed as we speak, and will be out in January.

sorry i keep disappearing in and out of (online) reality. lots of new things going on / here's a summary....
the Mulhouse party was amazing (besides those security fuckers) with over 13OO people in attendance, many good sets from most of the artists, especially La peste, CF, K.Oz and electroplasma...unfortuneately i missed most of Dan's although the end was good. personally, i had a killer time doing a vocal kereoke version of "More Drugs" while that totally stacked naked guy was freeking out in front. Haha, finally got a gogo guy. Actually he is quite cool and does alot of fucked up performances in France with a group other parisians. Anyways, that was wicked, thanks to everyone from everywhere coming to party...!
Directly before the party in Mulhouse, I was able to finish recording my next Hecate 12" which is for the new paris label YB7O, run by K.Oz. It is a seven tracker dedicated to my friends Venetian Snares, Lustmord,and K.Oz...Keeping the usual sinister atmosphere, I have explored different rhythmic structures than my found in my previous material. The album, Capricorn Connectrix, is aimed for release in January (according to the zodiac sign), and I just cut it last week.
Recieved the tests of Still Raven 1, Zhark 12OO7, praxis 36 (crisis theory) and 37 (low entropy) so those should be out soon...sorry for delays, you know us.....
My full length "The Magick of..." on CD will be out early in the year.
Lustmord and I have to put our recording plans on hold, until I decide to enter America again. So, instead, we will be swapping tracks, and I am planning on taking on the idea of remixing each one of his albums into a track each...there being 3 or 4 tracks for an upcoming Zhark 12". The album will be a true collaborations though, with lots of live elements, and more organic sounds. more on that later....
I got tattooed for 5 hours in paris by an AWESOME tattoo artist...to the Omen soundtrack no less! highly recommended!!! Jan at Tribal Act.....only very solid black work...!
Filmed, but not yet edited, my first solo music clip in Pere Lachaise, for the last and finally final Homewrecker release by Raquel De Grimstone!!! yeah super dark vocal breaks!! I haven't decided if I will release the 7" with an accompanying video tape or if I will release it on CD with an extra video track...we'll see...
Did another awesome squat party last Saturday with Nico from Ripit, Matt Fractal and a 5 hour dj freak out by me and K.oz....Thanks to everyone who showed up, especially the surprise of the Rennes crew!!
I guess there is a big party in Rennes December 15th, with Scud, Rotator, Rupture, K.Oz, and many more, as well as a party at the same Squat of the 13 in paris the night before, to celebrate the publication of the first AAA book which just came out, and features texts by Ricardo Bali, Jason Skeet and CF amongst others. I think CF and Ricardo Balli will be playing there, as well as a few others...
More shows for next year seem to be coming into place....more on that soon!!!

Eleven tracks serve as eleven channels on a journey through the female psyche
experienced through the eyes and ears of Hecate. Rachael Kozak, after releasing
records for five years under this guise, has finally completed her debut solo
LP. As a manifestation of the power of love, life, sex and death, The Magick of
Female Ejaculation reaches deep into chambers where others fear to tread.
Like Cassavettes' Woman Under the Influence, Rachael has obviously been affected by the works of The Marquis DeSade, Jack Parsons, Dario Argento and his involvment with Goblin, in addition to a myriad of other historical personas that creatively broke through to new levels of expression. She mixes these energies together with merciless beats and grinding rhythms while adding her own deep rooted emotional intensities - combining all of these to form some of the most haunting yet completely rocking tracks. The level of production on this album demonstrates how in tune Hecate has become with these men's machines.
Subverting the dancefloor with occultist breakcore and one woman's lust, Praxis and Zhark International have joined forces to bring this record into the material realm. There will follow a release on CD with 4 or 5 bonus tracks and an extended booklet soon...

ABELCAIN / CASSANDRA DATAKILL split 12" put on hold for a moment after recieving test pressings that did not play (meaning they skipped) - late april or may is the time to look for that but it will be soon coming on the Zhark site in the coming weeks.....

After some travels, studio sessions, and lots of new demo material coming to our attention...Many new projects are on the horizon.
Firstly, CF and Hecate (LIVE) will be appearing in London on November 9th at the Sick and Twisted night down at the dungeons in Vauxhall, as well as a show in Paris around the same time (more info soon) for specifics contact us...
There have been some changes in the concept of the upcoming Magick of...LP, with a decision to keep the harddisk tracks separate from the sampler/outboard gear material. So watch out for the limited edition CDR containing live sets of HECATE from both Milwaukee's WTW party, and and a mad party in Leipzig...
Slated for a new split 12" on Zhark to replace the faulty ultraflash/powderhorn split is going to be two of the darkest, and promising new artists from the States.... Zhark 12005 will be Cassandra Datakill vs. Abelcain
Also in the works is going to be a Salt remix 12" featuring different of one of the most breathtaking tracks by Hecate, V.Snares himself, and others to be announced
Stay tuned for the upcoming Sub/Version 5 which will be mastered in the coming weeks, and was written by CF and Hecate under the new guise of Crisis Theory..

Rachael Kozak's new album, produced under the moniker Hecate, is nearing completion and will be at least 2 x12"'s and a CD. It is a split between heavily edited breaks and harddisk recording done primarily within Cubase, and the other half features tracks done with the implementation of MIDI and uses her AKAI and other outboard effects. The album name is still, "The Magic of Female Ejaculation", and will appear as a Praxis/Zhark split release. Look for a remix of Lost your Power on it from Venetian Snares, as well as some surprise guests and collaborations from the usual suspects.....
New interviews are on Rachael's Kozak's info and discography as of 15-4-00 in the artists section. New & unreleased tracks by Rachael & Christoph Fringeli are on C8's tunes page.
Both Christoph (DJ) and Hecate (live) are scheduled to play in Karl-Marx-Stadt, april 7th 2000, along with Geroyche (live), Extraholy (live), Society Suckers, plus Karl-Marx-Stadt Dancehall Posse

WOW!! We have just happened upon the hottest tracks around! The artist
known as Venetian Snares based in Winnipeg, Canada will be gracing
Zhark-London with his 4 track 12" sooner than you think....
His style is the perfect blend of dissonant nightmarish amtospheres and off
the wall beats which cumulate in a mind-bending effect!! We will release 2
tracks, Salt and Intense Demon Attacks, which appear on CD via Isolate
records from California - along with 2 others written especially for
Zhark-London. Check him out on the Zhark CD comp 00002 as well,
more on that very soon....

Hecate - Negative World Status A five tracker on tracnslucent Claret colored vinyl, will have a limited edition of 50 which contain one of the victims of the autmn (see image) enclosed and signed with the record. Lynn Powderhorn comes back after her sabbatical in the heart of Africa, with a 12" produced with John Ryan (Spacelings and Bassheads) as The Citizens of Shade and released on Berlin's own KoolPOP driving ghetto bass lines, paired with ominous dub, and some surprising lyrics...
Rachael Kozak will be releasing a new 12" under the name Hecate, entitled Negative World Status. It will be a five tracker on colored vinyl.
Hecate will be releasing tracks on both North American Praxis compilations- a CD called Death Race 2000 and a double 12" (Praxis/Deadly Systems) featuring CF, Nomex, Scud, Dan (Hekate) and others....

A new Huren 12" is out on Zhark-Berlin....some cool dark slow stuff, but unfortunately still some minimal techno influence.
